Two candidates running for the same office inadvertently scheduled simultaneous campaign rallies in the same park of a small town. After lengthy round of speeches, the candidates worked their way through the crowd. Suddenly it began to rain. One of the candidates fled to take shelter in a nearby restaurant along with half a dozen supporters. The other candidate, however, continued to move through the crowd, shaking hands. “That man’s persistence sure makes it easy to know who to vote for,” observed one of the natives. “Yep,” another native agreed. “Can’t see myself voting for an ass who hasn’t got the brains to come in out of the rain.”
같은 자리를 놓고 겨루는 두 후보가 본의 아니게 한 작은 고장의 같은 공원에서 같은 시간의 유세 일정을 잡았다. 장황한 연설을 끝내자 두 사람은 군중 속으로 들어가 누비며 다녔다. 그런데 갑자기 비가 쏟아지기 시작했다. 그러자 한 사람은 그의 지지자 몇 사람과 함께 비를 피해 인근 식당으로 달려갔다. 그런데 상대편 후보는 거기서 떠나지 않고 사람들과 악수를 계속했다. 이를 보고 있던 그 고장 사람 하나가 말했다. “저렇게 악착스러운 걸 보니 누구한테 찍어야 할 건지 쉽게 알겠군.” 다른 그 고장 사람이 공감을 표했다. “그렇군. 비를 피할 줄도 모르는 얼빠진 사람한테 찍을 순 없는 거잖아.”
