A story from the early days when the oil company shares came on the market: Near the end of the question-and-answer period of an oil company’s stockholders meeting, an old lady raised her hand and asked: “Mr. Chairman, one thing has bothered me ever since I bought shares of this company. When you build a new gas station on a street corner, how do you know you’ll find oil?”
석유회사들이 주식을 상장했던 초기의 이야기 - 한 석유회사의 주주총회에서 질의응답이 끝날 무렵 할머니 한 분이 손을 들더니 묻는 것이었다. “회장님, 내가 이 회사 주식을 사고나서부터 내내 궁금했던 게 있어요. 거리 모퉁이에 주유소를 새로 세울 때 거기서 기름이 나온다는 걸 어떻게 알아내는 거죠?”
